Google Chrome’s Android browser is finally adopting a design feature that Safari introduced with iOS 15 in 2021: the option to move the address bar to the bottom of the screen.
On Tuesday, Google announced that the latest version of Chrome for Android will enable users to place the address bar at the bottom, enhancing usability on mobile devices. This feature was previously available on Chrome for iOS.
Unlike Apple, which initially forced the change on users, Google is giving users the flexibility to configure the address bar’s location according to their preference. To move the address bar, users can long-press on it and select the option to reposition it, or adjust it through the Settings menu.
This change is welcomed by many users, as it positions the address bar closer to their hands, making typing more comfortable.

When Apple first introduced the feature, some users criticized the initial placement of the address bar, which floated above the content and obstructed website elements. In response to feedback, Apple later moved the bar below the content and made it an optional setting.
Google is taking a similar approach by allowing users to choose where they want the address bar located.
The feature will start rolling out to Android devices today and will be available to all users in the coming weeks.
