The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced plans to vaccinate health workers before they begin administering cholera vaccines in affected areas of the Central Region.
Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director-General of GHS, explained that the decision is aimed at protecting frontline workers and preventing further spread of the disease, which has already claimed 14 lives.

Health authorities have also identified families of infected individuals for targeted interventions, including vaccination and awareness campaigns.
During a visit to cholera patients at the Winneba Municipal Hospital, Dr. Akoriyea stated that outreach teams will be deployed to schools and markets to educate the public on prevention measures.
“To protect our health workers and those in close contact with infected individuals, we are prioritizing vaccination. This will help contain the outbreak and prevent escalation,” he said.
The GHS continues to urge residents in affected communities to adhere to hygiene protocols and seek medical attention at the earliest sign of symptoms.
