Graham Potter has been relieved of his duties by Chelsea after Saturday’s disastrous 2-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.
The Chelsea boss had signed a long-term deal at the club in September, replacing Thomas Tuchel at the helm after Todd Boehly opted to axe the Champions League winner after defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

Since then, however, things haven’t exactly gone to plan for the former Brighton boss. Having lost 10 games in the Premier League already this season, the Blues sit in 11th in the table, and they have struggled to score goals under Potter – a problem he encountered at times during his time on the south coast.
Boehly had been to keep faith with Potter, wanting to give him time to turn things around, but a unanimous decision has been made to part company after goals from Ollie Watkins and John McGinn earned Unai Emery’s Villa a thoroughly deserved win at Stamford Bridge.
The club have now confirmed the decision to let Potter leave: “Chelsea FC has announced that Graham Potter has departed the club. Graham has agreed to collaborate with the Club to facilitate a smooth transition.
“In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future.”
