The central regional police command has arrested 9 Burkinabe Nationals at the outskirts of Abura Academy, a suburb of Cape Coast for attempted kidnapping.
This was after the police rescued the victim; another Burkinabe called Salmane Tchaboutchou.
The arrest followed a complaint from the chief of Zombrama Community and a resident of Abura, Osman Dawda, on 30th November that the victim Salmane Tchaboutchou had been kidnapped and kept in a house by some unknown persons at Pedu, in the Cape Coast metropolis.
On receipt of the complaint, a team from the Regional CID led by the crime officer, trapped and located an unmanned self-contained house at the outskirts of Abura Academy and rescued the victim.
The arrested persons; all males include Ernest Ibuodo 21 years, Arnaud Nikiam 21 years, Dentes Songote 20 years, Lassina Sombite 20 years, and Adams Konditamde 23 years.
The others include Zakaria Massibo 22 years, Towende Yabre 19years, Paul Marie Kabore 31 years, and Sofiane Ali also 21 years.
Briefing the media on Thursday, Central regional police commander, DCOP Kwadwo Antwi-Tabi said all the nine persons were occupying the same house when the arrests were effected.
A search conducted in their room also led to the recovery of sixteen (16) cell phones, one HP Laptop, and seven exercise books that contained chart graphs.
DCOP Kwadwo Antwi-Tabi revealed that “the suspects entered the country illegally and were working for QNET network marketing company without working permit.”
He further noted that their modus operandi is to lure unsuspecting victims into the country with a promise of securing them lucrative jobs in the mining sector through the QNET and later kidnap them for ransom from their families.
He notes that the police command together with security and government institutions is still interrogating the nine suspects to gather more information adding that investigations are ongoing and they will be soon be put before the court.
He, therefore, cautioned the general public to be vigilant and also do due diligence in job offers that are presented to them.
The suspects are facing charges of human trafficking, abetment of kidnapping, and kidnapping. They are also faced with the charge of defrauding by false pretenses, unlawful entry into the country, and being residents in Ghana without valid documents.
