The Central Regional Minister, Mr. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah has firmly refuted claims that the Central Region is among the poorest in Ghana.
In a recent address to the staff of the Central Regional Coordinating Council, he vehemently opposed that notion saying “I am not comfortable when I hear that… I don’t know what surveys brought out that result.”
Citing a 2020 survey, Minister Eduamoah highlighted that the Central Region ranked as the fourth richest in the country, emphasizing the region’s wealth in resources and human capital.
He therefore questioned why the region’s feat is not being projected, urging both residents and the media to promote a positive image of the area.
Eduamoah reiterated that the region is rich in its people, and resources and outlined plans to identify and harness the region’s wealth, focusing on tourism and agriculture.
“And that is the job we want to create. That is the opportunity we have. The tourist opportunity we have and the agriculture opportunity we have. We are going to harness them to ensure that we showcase the richness of Central Region,” he continued.
Addressing the council staff, Hon. Eduamoah acknowledged their experience and expertise, some having served for over two decades and expressed confidence that with unity and effort, the narrative of the Central Region can be transformed swiftly.
“Let us do it together. You understand, some have been here for more than 20 years and so I expect them to show me the way,” he said.
They are the technocrats. They know what to do. So, I think that until they are ready to support you, you cannot succeed.
“Let’s work. Let’s make Ghana a better place. Let’s make Central Region a better place. Central Region is all we have. People talk about Central Region being a poor region. But I believe that if we put ourselves together, we can change the narrative as early as possible.
