The Central Regional Branch of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry has paid a courtesy call on Management of University of Cape Coast as part of efforts to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
The purpose of the visit was to explore possible areas of collaboration and how best such collaborations will help develop the Central Region.
According to the Chairman of the Chamber, Mr. Anthony Yoofi Pokoo-Aikins, the visit formed part of the Chamber’s resolve to develop the region and also work together with academia to utilize resources and change the narrative of development in the Central Region.
He further explained that there is much more the two entities can do in the area of industry, academia, and partnership.
“In other places in the world, if we go to seasoned economies like Korea, Germany, Singapore, Morocco, Israel among others, we see an effective partnership of industry and academia working to tap into resources like what we have here, turning them into businesses all over the place and into job creation,” he indicated.
Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong pledged the full cooperation of university management to ensure an impactful partnership that will create better opportunities for the youth in the region.
He emphasized that the very principle or the vision that sets up the university is to have an impact on the society.
“We want to live up to that expectation and we cannot do it alone.”
Prof. Nyarko Boampong further noted that there is the need to work with industry and the University is prepared to do that.
A memorandum of Understanding is also expected to be signed for the benefit of parties soon.
