The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says the Central Region including eleven other regions are without COVID-19 active cases.
According to the Service, the country is currently recording fairly extremely low cases with a daily average of less than twenty cases as compared to August 08, last year, when the highest daily increase in cases was recorded in Ghana, at 4,760.
Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye at a COVID-19 briefing held in Accra on Tuesday, 26th April, 2022, said it is based on this reduced number of active cases in the country, that President Akufo-Addo in the nation’s 28th COVID-19 update eased some COVID-19 restrictions which included the compulsory wearing of face masks at public places.
According to Dr. Kuma-Aboagye, although it is currently not mandatory to wear face mask in the country, it is necessary to wear it at an enclosed and congested places to reduce one’s risk of contracting the virus since not everyone has gotten the vaccine.
He said as of April 23, Ghana’s confirmed Covid-19 cases stand at 161,172 with a total of 1,445 deaths.
Dr. Kuma-Aboagy emphasized that “the president said it is not mandatory but did not ask us not to wear the mask. The risk is still there so we recommend that where possible, wear your mask especially when you are in a closed and congested place”.
The GHS Director-General, however, stated that 159,679 people who fell prey to the virus have recovered and have been discharged from the various health facilities.
