The Centre for Democratic Development Ghana (CDD-Ghana) has welcomed the release of the KPMG report regarding the contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made the report public on Wednesday, emphasising transparency and openness as the driving reasons.
This release follows the president’s initial refusal to publish the full report, despite a request from the Media Foundation for West Africa.
Dr. Kojo Asante, Director of Advocacy and Policy Engagement at CDD-Ghana, discussed the matter on the Citi FM acknowledging that while the release is a positive step, the president should be more prompt in responding to similar requests in the future.
“We cannot ignore these issues if we aim to hold people accountable. This is why infractions occur within the system. Although the full report was released, there was still no information on the investment by SML that justifies their fee-for-performance arrangement with the GRA,” Dr. Asante said.
He said, “There are many questions that need to be addressed for this arrangement to be understood fully. The release of the report is important, setting a good precedent, but we should expect proactive disclosure from the presidency in matters of public interest.”
