The Coastal Development Authority (CODA) has procured some 300 outboard motors for distribution to fishermen in the Central Region at hugely subsidized prices.
CODA, through the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme IPEP, is embarking on the distribution of 5000 outboard motors to fishers in the coastal regions.
With the support of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aqua Culture Development, the Authority has procured the first phase of the project which comprises some 1300 outboard motors of which the central region is receiving 300 units.

Speaking at the presentation on Tuesday July 21 2020, CEO of Coastal Development Authority Jerry Ahmed Shaib indicated the cause for this project had been triggered by the Central Regional Minister, Mr. Kwamena Duncan, in a cabinet meeting on the need to equip the fishers in the country to better their trade.
In this regard a 40-horsepower outboard moto which used to sell at GH¢ 18, 370 will be sold at GH¢10 100 while a 15-horsepower which is sold between fourteen thousand or fifteen thousand Ghana Cedis will be now sold at GH¢5,100
Receiving the motors, Nana Obrenu Dabum lll chief fisher man for Fetteh and chairman of the Ghana Canoe and Fishermen Council expressed gratitude to government and assured the machines would be put to appropriate use.
Of the 300, Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem Municipality got 43, Abura Asebu Kwamankese District had 25, Awutu Senya West District had 20, Mfantsiman Municipality 40, Gomoa West 40, Ekumfi District 36, Cape Coast Metropolis 35, Efutu Municipality 35, and Gomoa East District 26.
