Persons in the Cape Coast Metropolitan Area who are below 25 years have been banned from riding tricycles particularly “pragyia or aboboyaa” starting Monday, November 15, 2021.
According to a statement signed by Management of the CCMA, this directive which is “as provided by law” and other related directives were taken at a meeting of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Security Council that was held on September 15, 2021.
The statement also revealed that, “Unregistered tricycles and unlicensed riders are banned from operation. All tricycles are restricted from using the Accra-Takoradi Highway and their operations should be between the hours of 6:00am and 5:00pm daily only.”
Sand winning has also been a major concern within the Cape Coast Metropolis, with the rate of beach erosion increasing in the Central Region because of unregulated sand winning along the sea shores.
Thus, in other to bring a stop to the menace, the CCMA has revealed that sand winning activities along the beaches are banned.
Moreover, efforts to make Cape Coast open defecation free (ODF), has also led the Assembly to put a ban on open defecation in the Metropolis.
The ban on sand winning and open defecation in the Metropolis also take effect on Monday, November 15, 2021.
