Mr. George Justice Arthur, nominee for the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer position, has vowed to prioritize safety and security by ensuring the streets of Cape Coast are well lit.
Speaking on the Atlantic Wave on Tuesday, 15th April, 2025, Mr. Arthur promised to tackle the issues of security as part of his 120-day roadmap once he assumes office as the Chief Executive of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly.
He stated that the issue of security would be paramount in his administration.
Meanwhile, he said security cannot be the sole responsibility of the security agencies.
Areas without lighting system within the metropolis include the OLA stretch from Bakaano to St. Augustine College and its environs, the stretch across the regional coordinating council (RCC) and the Cape Coast – Elmina highway including the northern part of Cape Coast.
According, Mr. George Justice Arthur, lighting is a crucial component of overall security and he will ensure he prioritizes lighting the city within three months in office.
“And that is my cardinal approach. Within the next three months, I will make sure keep courses light up everywhere,” he stated. “At the end of the three months, I will come here and I’ll come to the people. If I’m not able to do it, I will tell them the challenge. But I will do my best and do the maximum out of that because that has been the priority.”
He also underscored the need to address unauthorized structures blocking waterways which causes problems for residents.
To address this, Mr. George Justice Arthur plans to introduce quarterly town hall meetings to engage various stakeholders including heads of institutions, media, assemble members and community leaders to discuss issues towards the development of Cape Coast.
He believes that citizens’ participation is essential to local governance and development.
“That has even been said by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and has actually given the powers to the MMDAs and MMDCs to make sure they regulate them, they finetune to them, they do justice to all these things,” he continued.
