The Ghana National Gas Company Limited has cut sod to expand the Wesley Girls’ High School dining hall in Cape Coast.
The project which is scheduled to be completed in six months when ready will help address the challenge of students having to go for dining in batches.
The expansion and refurbishment of the dining hall is in line with Ghana National Gas Company Limited’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), which has the aim of ensuring that Ghanaians benefit from the oil fund of the country.
According to the Senior Manager, Community Relation and CSR of Ghana Gas, Mr. Stephen Donkor, as Ghana Gas is a national asset, the oil fund should be owned by all Ghanaians.
“Ghana Gas, the CEO, and the board do not believe that the corporate social responsibility project should be limited to only Western Region, and for that matter, the operational area. We should spread it out…So that when you talk of the oil and gas fund in Ghana, each Ghanaian can owe ownership, can lay claims to the oil and gas fund and that is the rationale, the philosophy behind our CSR operations.” He said while speaking in an interview with ATLFMNEWS during the sod cutting.
On his part, Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo who is the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana as well as the Chair of the Governing Board of Wesley Girls High School commended Ghana Gas for stepping in to help the school expand its dining hall so it can accommodate all the girls at a go.
He said the three-story facility to be built by the Company would help solve the issue of the students eating in batches.
“And so coming to eat in Batches will be a thing of the past and we are so grateful to Ghana Gas. We pray that the Lord will continue to bless the work of Ghana Gas so they can also give to society and other institutions that go to them for support.” He said.
He further appealed to individuals and institutions to assist the school to increase its facilities so it will have the capacity to enroll more students.
He said due to the lack of facilities the school is unable to admit the number of girls who apply to the school and as such called on philanthropists, institutions and organizations to help in that regard.
