UCC Hospital Report

ATL FM’S Aba Aikins visited the UCC Hospital, where the Director of University Health Services, Dr. James Prah provided an update.

Dr. Prah confirmed that 5 victims were rushed to the facility’s emergency unit after the crash.

“I was informed of a terrible accident and immediately rushed to the emergency unit. When I arrived, I saw five victims but unfortunately, one of them was brought in dead,” Dr. Prah disclosed.

He revealed that the remaining four had varying injuries ranging from deep cuts to bleeding from different parts of their bodies.

According to Dr. Prah, the severity of their conditions differed, with some requiring urgent surgical attention.

“Yesterday, we managed to stabilize them all” adding that “on Thursday Morning, two of the injured victims were declared fit and have been discharged while the two remain on admission for continued treatment and monitoring.”

Meanwhile, tipper truck driver, Bright Essel, has been detained by police to assist with further investigations.

Victim’s Report

26-year old George Ayensu Peters, who was riding an Apsonic motor tricycle, was one of the two remaining victims on admission at the UCC Hospital at the time of the visit.

Narrating the horrifying moment, the accident occurred, he said, “we were waiting by the side of the road when suddenly the tipper truck veered off and came straight at us.”

“I was in the tricycle with my father, Charles Ayensu Peters, 47. We had gone to the UCC hospital to show to a doctor- an X-ray of my brother who was earlier involved in a motor accident here in Cape Coast and is currently on admission at the Cape Coast Teaching hospital.”

“Upon, returning to the hospital where my brother was, we unfortunately got involved in the accident.”

I was not using the tricycle for commercial purposes,” he added.
