Ghana’s Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has been defended by his spokesperson, Kofi Abrefa Afena, against calls for his removal amid ongoing power shortages.
He assured that progress is being made in resolving the issues and tangible improvements will be evident soon as such he called for patience from the public.
Afena indicated that such calls are without understanding, stressing that Dr. Prempeh is focused on delivering results rather than engaging in empty talk. He highlighted the minister’s tireless efforts to address the challenges facing the energy sector.
The Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security (IES), Nana Amoasi VII recently criticized the Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for his perceived inaction and ineffective leadership in addressing the ongoing power outages known to many as ‘dumsor’.
Nana Amoasi stated, “Given the current circumstances where we are experiencing frequent power outages, what benefit does the minister offer? It might be better for him to step down and possibly explore different responsibilities.”
Referring to this call by the Executive Director of IES), Afena stressed that he struggles to appreciate the logic in Amoasi’s position of removing the minister.
“When Kwabena Donkor resigned over the pervasive Dumsor under John Mahama, did it necessarily solve the matter? Amoasi should get serious. It is all about solutions. Dr. Prempeh continues to work with the technical people to find amicable solutions,” he said.
To him, Dr. Prempeh remains committed to finding solutions to the crisis.
The country has been experiencing frequent power outages, prompting widespread frustration among citizens. Despite calls for a structured timetable to manage the disruptions, the situation remains challenging.
