Watreso D/A Basic School in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira (THLD) district in the Central Region has celebrated its 78th anniversary with a call to all stakeholders to come on board to help the school soar to higher heights.
At a grand durbar to climax activities marking the anniversary, Headmaster for the school, Francis Asante, expressed great satisfaction at how far the school has developed with the help of the Board, PTA, past and present students, the heads, teachers, and management.
He, however, called on stakeholders, old students, Government, and the PTA to assist the school to equip the school’s ICT lab with computers.
He said it was the expectation of the school to have a good laboratory for science and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) which would serve as a resource Centre for the school and the community.
He indicated that “this is the reason behind the 78th anniversary and if we are able to contribute our quotas we will be able to start something to help the school get the needed resources for the ICT lab.”
A former student of the school, Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, the General Manager of the Campus Broadcasting Services Centre at the University of Cape Coast who was the chairman for the occasion, congratulated the school for its immense role in the education sector in the area.
He said the school has made tremendous strides from its humble beginnings to date.
While praising the teachers in the school for their selfless commitment and sacrifices in imparting knowledge and skills, and, critically, instilling discipline into the children, he also advised parents and the home to be the first point of disciplining children and not shirk their responsibility.
He asked them to take a cue from them as old students who are successful to push the children to learn hard and be of good values in other for them to have a good standing in future
He also called for concerted efforts to complete the ICT build and stock it with the needed computers.
He further urged the teachers and organizers to set up a special committee that will work towards ensuring the school gets a well-resourced computer lab.
