Two districts in the Central Region have been earmarked to benefit from the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccination processes scheduled to take effect on March 2, 2021.
Deputy Central Regional Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service Dr. Godfred Sarpong disclosed this to ATL FM yesterday saying the two districts are part of the 42 selected beneficiary districts.
He said the two were selected due to the high number of recorded cases since the onset of the pandemic in the country.

“By March 2nd 2021, we are going to roll out in 42 districts across the country, in Central Region, we have two of our districts, attached to the 42, and the Ewutu Senya East and Ewutu Senya .Majority of the 42 are in Greater Accra and Ashanti Region. The selection of districts in the Central Region is as a result of the high disease burden we have seen there .There is a high volume of traffic between Accra and Kasoa, lots of people live in Kasoa and work in Accra so the disease burden is quite high in these two districts” he noted .
Dr. Godfred Sarpong revealed that Even though these districts have been earmarked for the first phase of the vaccination exercise, not everyone is going to get the vaccinated.
According to him, “persons under 18 years and pregnant women are not going to get vaccinated. He said pregnant women and minors have been exempted because there is not enough data to show whether the vaccine is safe for them or not .
At the moment, he indicated that attention is focused on “frontline health workers, teachers, the arms of government and persons with underlying medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension and others.”
