The Central Regional Director of the Ministry of Gender, Madam Richlove Amamoo has called for immediate action and collaborative efforts from parents and other stakeholders to control the trend of teenage pregnancy in the region.
To her, the growing rate of teenage pregnancies in the region is alarming hence, the need for effective measures to be put in place to prevent its re-occurrence.
According to recent figures released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), 301 girls are impregnated every day while 13 teenage pregnancies are recorded every hour.
The GHS report also said a total of 109,888 teenage pregnancies were recorded in 2020 with the lowest age of a girl to be impregnated being 10 years.

Speaking on the ATLANTIC WAVE Monday, Madam Amamoo stressed on the need to intensify sexual and reproductive health education among teenagers adding that “the ignorance among many teenagers on sexual health is a major contributing factor to this menace.”
She also advocated for the need to encourage the use of condoms among sexually active teenagers but called on parents to take more responsibility in the well-being of their teenage children.
