The Central Regional House of Chiefs has promised the government its unwavering support in developing the Region.
The aim is to change the region’s reputation as the poorest by bringing further infrastructure initiatives and opportunities to reduce the unemployment rate.
The Chiefs were dissatisfied that the Region, which had the best colleges, hospitals, and was the center of tourism, remained the fourth poorest in the nation at the 2021 first General Meeting of the House of Chiefs in Cape Coast to deliberate on problems facing the Region and formulate ways of addressing them.
They stated that they were willing to collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders in developing it in order to draw further funding, programs, and opportunities to improve the quality of living in the Region.
They would also help to promote stability, maintain protection, and development such that it can be counted among the richest in the country.
Odeefo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, President of the House, said during his speech at the meeting that they needed to reconsider their positions and become more development-oriented in order to make the Region more appealing.
He mentioned that they were open to stakeholder involvement in improving lives and lowering the incidence of social vices among youth as a consequence of unemployment.
Odeefo Buadu VIII urged the government to assist in pushing the Region’s growth agenda by tourism development in order to improve the economy and raise funds for the republic.
The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr Ebenezer Kojo Kum, has called for unity of purpose in the fight against galamsey in order to conserve water bodies and forest reserves.
He urged chiefs to join the fight because they played an important role in the country’s governance and development.
Mr Kum revealed that chieftaincy disputes accounted for approximately 60% of all controversies in the country and urged them to assist in resolving the misunderstandings surrounding chieftaincy in the country.
Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, Regional Minister, for her part, urged all stakeholders to work together to make the Region the best of all Regions in the country.
