Ahead of a data collection to develop a Single National household register to link the poor and vulnerable to all social interventions, the Ghana National Household Registry (GNHR), a unit under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has paid a courtesy visit to the Central Regional House of Chiefs.
The visit forms part of the GNHR’s public information campaign processes which seeks to create awareness of the data collection process as well as to seek collective cooperation from key stakeholders such as chiefs in order to guarantee a smooth start in the region.
In 2020, the GNHR commenced its data collection activities in the Northern, North East, and Savanna Regions. The GNHR data collection exercise is part of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPNSP) being implemented by government with the support of the World Bank and the Department for International Development (DFID).
Speaking to ATL FM NEWS, Head of GNHR, Dr. Richard Adjetey indicated that the development of the register entails the collection of information on the composition and socio-economic characteristics of households.
He said the exercise will aid in the development of a register that will serve as a database for the selection of all beneficiaries for all social protection programs in Ghana.
Dr. Adjetey, therefore, called on the chiefs to support the cause adding that his outfit will also ensure to gather accurate data at the end of the exercise so as to link the poor and vulnerable to social interventions in the Country.
He explained that the “Central region has been identified with an extreme poverty rate of 2. 1% and they contribute about 2.2 % to extreme poverty in Ghana. So that is why it is been selected as a region where we will be able to gather this data both census or mobile registration to be able to enroll most of these vulnerable persons on our database”
On his part, the President of the Regional House of Chiefs, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII pledged the support of the house to the exercise in the Region.
