A Metro Mass Transport Limited Driver, Anthony Anning has been interdicted after some offences were leveled against him for causing a stir at the MMTL Depot on Tuesday.
On the evening of Monday June 29, 2020, Anning allegedly parked a bus with fleet number TG 02 to block the main entrance of the yard at Aquarium in Cape Coast as a means of pressing home his demands over some unpaid salaries.
Anning, who did not move the bus after several attempts by his colleague drivers and union members, also refused to give the car key out to any driver, “albeit he was off duty”.
In a statement signed by the Depot Manager, Owraku G. Appiah, he had gone a great length to explain circumstances resulting in the delay of the payment of salaries but Anning “wouldn’t budge.”

“When I was informed about the incidence at about 10:40 pm, I came to the yard and you explained that you had done that to protest non-payment of salaries for the past two months” the depot manager explained.
Mr. Appiah therefore lodged a complaint at the Bakaano Police Station with the view to restore order but he refused to pay heed to anybody, thereby leading to his arrest and detainment.
On Tuesday morning, Anning led the CID to the main yard where the key was retrieved from beneath a pavement stone where he hid it.
He is alleged to “have committed gross insubordination, unauthorized use of company vehicle, causing substantial financial loss to the company and engaging in an act that has put the name of the company into disrepute”, a statement from the MMTL said.
According to Management, he is required to explain his conduct “stating why disciplinary actions should not be taken against him. He is also expected to report to the Depot Manger every Tuesday and Thursday for the determination of the case.
Management is also asking that with immediate effect, he returns every company property in his possession.
