Sarki Abdul Karim Dawda has been appointed as the first Zongo chief of the Kwaprow Muslim community in the Cape Coast metropolis.
He was installed together with his deputy and two other magajia at a colorful ceremony at the Kwaprow new community center.
The installation and turbaning were done by a council of Hausa elders and traditional chiefs.
Speaking to ATLFM NEWS on the sidelines, Sarki Abdul Karim Dawda, expressed appreciation to all those who witnessed his coronation.
He pledged to cooperate with the Kaprow traditional council to assist the community’s development and to make efforts to provide a makaranta to advance the teaching of Islam in the community.
“I pledge to collaborate with Nana Kwesi Mensah III and the traditional council to ensure that Kwaprow experiences significant development. Obtaining a makaranta for the community is one of my top priorities as the new Zongo chief of Kwaprow. Our children have to go a considerable distance to get a makaranta because there isn’t one in their neighborhood. So, I’ll do all I can to ensure that the community gets one.” He said.
He further appealed to government to ensure the 1 District 1 Factory initiative reaches the Kwaprow community to help residents in the area have job opportunities.
On his part, the Chief of the Kwaprow community, Nana Kwesi Mensah III congratulated Sarkin Dawda on his coronation.
He indicated that the Zongo chief’s position will require him to oversee the affairs of the Muslim people in the Kwaprow community and he together with the council will render their unflinching support to him.
He, therefore, challenged him to put in hard work in all his endeavors to ensure the development of the Kaprow community.
A host of dignitaries including Sarkin Zongo from other regions, traditional chiefs and queen mothers, security personnel, among others graced the occasion.
