The Denkyira Traditional Council has announced the rescheduling of the burial rites of Denkyirahene Odeefuo Boa Amponsem III. The funeral was slated for April this year but had to be called off following the President’s directive on the ban on social gathering including the funeral.
A statement from the traditional Council said it will rely on government’s directive to set a new date when neccesary.

POSTPONEMENT OF THE ROYAL BURIAL RITES OF
ODEEFUO BOA AMPONSEM III, DENKYIRAHENE (1955-2016)
The Denkyira Traditional Council under the leadership of the Acting President, Nana Oduro Akenten II, Denkyirahemmaa Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III and Abusuapanyin Nana Ponfo Agyeman III announced to Denkyiraman, and the public the scheduling of the royal burial rites of the Great King of Denkyira, Odeefuo Boa Amponsem III from 4th to 17th April, 2021. This was well received by Denkyiraman and the leadership of the country.

The situation with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic, aptly presented by the President in his 21st address to the country confirmed the dire challenge to public gathering. A ban was placed on funerals and burial restricted to 25 persons implying that we cannot conform to the funeral schedule as announced.
Lift of Ban:
Consequently, the ban on noise-making in Denkyiraman and the performance of funeral rites imposed by the Denkyira Traditional Council has hereby revoked by same authority. Citizens are therefore to go about their normal activities in Denkyira. We, however admonish that citizens must be guided by the national regulations on funerals as announced by the President of Ghana.
Preparation and New Schedule:
Citizens of Denkyira are assured that other preparations for the burial rites of the Great King, Odeefuo Boa Amponsem III, are going on and the Funeral Committee is feverishly putting finishing touches to the funeral activities.
The Denkyira Tradition Council shall therefore rely on government directives on the COVID-19 situation and reach out again to Denkyiraman and Ghana with a new schedule for the Royal Burial Rites of Odeefuo.
We wish to thank the Government, the institutions on Denkyiraland for their cooperation and we shall count on them for same at the appropriate time. Let us all respect the COVID-19 protocols.
