King Charles III counted Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba among his favourite musicians, according to the United Kingdom’s Deputy High Commissioner to Ghana, Keith McMahon.
The revelation came during a condolence visit to the family of the late icon, where Mr McMahon expressed Britain’s sympathies and acknowledged Daddy Lumba’s global cultural influence.
Speaking to the bereaved family, Mr McMahon disclosed that King Charles had listed Daddy Lumba as one of his top music choices on his iPhone — a gesture he said reflects the far-reaching impact of the artist beyond Ghana’s borders.

“I want to express Britain’s, and indeed the world’s, condolences because Daddy Lumba was a cultural pop icon,” he said.

Mr McMahon emphasised that Daddy Lumba’s influence extended across continents, noting how the King’s admiration symbolised the artist’s global reach.
“His music touched people far and wide. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy continues to live on,” he added.
The visit forms part of a series of tributes from high-profile individuals who have honoured the memory of the late music legend.
Former President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia have also visited the family in recent days.
