The company behind the ride-haling app Bolt says it has banned one of its drivers in Tanzania after allegations that he had assaulted a female passenger generated outrage online.
A widely shared social media post detailed how a young woman said she was left with multiple injuries after she refused to pay more money than the price displayed on the app.
She said she tried to escape but the driver pushed her and stole all of the remaining money she had in her purse, leaving her in shock.
In reactions to the post, people detailed how they had also suffered similar treatment at the hands of some drivers.
The story was shared by a friend of the victim who said she wanted to “spread awareness so that it cannot happen to anyone else again”.
In response, Bolt said it does “not condone any form of violence on our platform”.
