The remains of Erasmus Klutse, a second-year medical student in Cuba on a GNPC scholarship, will be flown back to Ghana as soon as the autopsy is done.
This is according to Dr Dominc Eduah, Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation.
The deceased passed away on May 7th in Havanna, under conditions that remain unknown.
His classmates say that his death was caused by the country’s harsh living conditions.
Dr Eduah said that the GNPC Foundation would cover all costs associated with transporting the body home.
“We addressed it and are awaiting the final autopsy study. After that, the GNPC is prepared to ensure that the body is brought in as soon as possible for the appropriate rites to be performed.”
In a related development, the GNPC Foundation traced the delays in paying stipends to Cuban medical scholars to a dispute about the payment method.

According to Dr. Dominic Eduah, Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, students wished to be compensated in cash in hand, despite the fact that financial procedures do not permit this.
“From the GNPC’s perspective, we like to state that we have been excessively dedicated to our deal with the students. We’ve developed a monitoring team. We go to Cuba every year, but would have gone last year had it not been for COVID-19. We’ve been speaking with students about their concerns. That is not to say that we have abandoned them. We beg to disagree on the issue of them being fed low-quality meals.”
