The joint headliner of Liverpool’s Africa Oyé festival is none other than the son of legendary reggae artist Bob Marley.
The city’s Sefton Park will host a festival of African and Caribbean music and culture on the weekend of June 22–23.
Les Amazones d’Afrique, a group from Mali, will perform on Saturday, and Julian Marley & The Uprising will wrap out the free concert on Sunday.
On February 5th, Marley was awarded the Grammy for Best Reggae Album.
Africa Oyé’s organizers claimed that the event “prided itself” in bringing in performers to compete with well-known sponsored festivals.
Every year, about 50,000 people come, and in 2023, attendance broke records.

Les Amazones d’Afrique, who have performed at Glastonbury and on Later with Jools Holland, are said to have former US President Barack Obama as a fan.
The organisers stated that more artists will be revealed when they are ready.
“Les Amazones d’Afrique are the definition of a supergroup – so much talent coming together to create something really special,” stated Paul Duhaney, creative director of the festival: “It’s great to see their new album getting mainstream attention on likes of 6Music.”
“And with Julian Marley you’ve got a reggae superstar who has truly emerged from his father’s shadow.
“You don’t win Grammys without being an incredible talent in your own right and it’ll be a Sunday night for the history books when he closes the festival this year”.
