The Veterinary Services Directorate says it is taking swift measures to contain the spread of bird flu in the country.
Speaking at a media briefing in Accra, the Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Patrick Abakeh urged farmers to cooperate with the Directorate to stem the spread of the virus.
He said farmers who had their birds destroyed as a result of the disease will be compensated, as such they should not fear to report the situation to the Directorate.
According to him “the poultry industry that is at stake and that is why the ministry is doing everything possible to make sure they contain this disease. Apart from greater Accra, we have had 3 farms in the central region, 2 in the volta region and 2 farms in the Ashanti region and we do not want this disease to spread beyond these farms.”
Dr. Patrick Abakeh said the directorate will continue to create awareness of the disease to contain it within the shortest possible time.
