In a heartwarming display of generosity and community spirit, the Queens Association in Belgium has donated essential medical supplies and paid the delivery bills of three new mothers at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH).

The donation, valued at several thousands of Ghana cedis, formed part of the group’s humanitarian initiative to support maternal and neonatal healthcare in Ghana.

It included digital thermometers, blood pressure monitors, feeding bottles, baby dresses, pulse oximeters, medication boxes, forehead thermometers, diapers, baby wipes, and other essential clinical materials.

As part of the gesture, the group also repainted two maternity wards at the hospital to improve the environment for patients and healthcare workers.

The refurbished wards, now brighter and more welcoming, symbolize the Association’s belief that a clean and pleasant setting contributes to better recovery and improved morale among patients and staff.

Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, Madam Veronica Koomson, expressed deep appreciation to the Queens Association for their timely intervention.

She commended the group’s efforts in supporting healthcare delivery at a time when hospitals were grappling with logistical constraints.

“This donation will go a long way to enhance our service delivery, especially in the maternity wards. Many mothers arrive at the hospital without basic supplies, and these items will make a huge difference in their care and comfort,” Madam Koomson said.

She further lauded the group’s decision to cover the medical expenses of three mothers who were unable to pay their delivery bills, describing the gesture as a remarkable act of compassion that reflects true Christmas spirit.

Speaking during the presentation, Sister Belinda Ohene Agyekum, leader of the Queens Association in Belgium, said the donation was motivated by the group’s desire to give back to their home country and support vulnerable families, especially women and children.

“We believe that giving back is not a privilege, but a duty. As Ghanaians living abroad, we are mindful of the challenges many families face, particularly in the area of healthcare. This is our small way of contributing to better maternal and child health in our communities,” she said.

She explained that the Association, made up of Ghanaian women based in Belgium, regularly mobilizes resources to support health and social welfare projects in Ghana.

Over the years, the group has undertaken similar outreach initiatives in communities across the Central Region, focusing on maternal health, child welfare, and community development.

The donation was met with joy and gratitude by hospital staff and patients alike. Mothers in the wards who benefited from the gesture were moved to tears, expressing their heartfelt thanks to the group for stepping in at a difficult time.

Hospital officials described the initiative as a shining example of diaspora-led philanthropy that complements government efforts to improve healthcare access and quality.

“Acts of kindness such as this remind us that we all have a role to play in building a healthy and compassionate society,” one senior nurse said.

The Queens Association reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting health facilities across Ghana and called on other benevolent organizations, particularly those in the diaspora, to emulate their example by contributing to national development.
