New TGMA star Beeztrap KOTM ignites debate by labeling Kumasi as the unrivaled source of Ghana’s music legends, from Daddy Lumba to the Asakaa movement.
The 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) ‘New Artiste of the Year’ winner boldly asserted that Kumasi is Ghana’s premier city for musical talent. In an interview with Nana Romeo, the “Fly Girl” hitmaker addressed the ongoing discussion about which city has produced the most artists. While Accra and Tema are frequently mentioned, Beeztrap maintained that Kumasi, also known as Oseikrom, stands unmatched.

He noted that Kumasi has historically been at the forefront of Ghana’s music evolution, nurturing some of the country’s most iconic acts across generations. “If we look back in time, during Daddy Lumba’s era, it was Kumasi. In Sarkodie’s time, and even during Okyeame Kwame’s time, Kumasi was the place,” he said.
Beeztrap emphasized that the city continues to thrive today, particularly with the rise of the Asakaa movement and a new wave of artists gaining national recognition. “Right now, the music is in Kumasi, and all the boys are here. We have Oseikrom Sikani, Asakaa, King Paluta, Amerado, Strongman, and many others.”
He concluded by affirming Kumasi’s dominance in the music scene: “If we’re being honest, Kumasi has produced more artists than any other region.”
Beeztrap KOTM won the “Best New Artist” award at the 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, nominated alongside Lali x Lola, AratheJay, Rap Fada, Team Eternity, and Kwesi Amewuga.
In March 2025, the Ghana Music Award Academy Board announced the nominees for the 26th TGMA, featuring categories such as Artiste of the Year, Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.
