Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will begin the 100-day countdown to the Census on Friday, March 19, when he announces the 2021 Housing and Population Census (PHC).
The Census Night is the enumeration’s reference date, and all questions raised during the enumeration will be about that night.
It also decides when the census will be conducted in 2021.
According to Clause three of the Statistical Service Act, 2019, the Ghana Statistical Service is the lead agency for the census (Act 1003).
The census will provide detailed, dependable, high-quality, timely, appropriate, and accurate statistical data to help direct national growth.
The census for 2021 was supposed to take place in 2020, but it had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the pandemic’s difficulties, the Service aims to start gathering data in the second quarter of 2021, according to an official statement sent to the Ghana News Agency.
The census preparations had progressed to a point where several main activities such as the delineation of the entire country into about 52,000 enumeration areas, the finalization of enumeration instruments, and quality assurance procedures had been completed, according to the Service.
Three trial censuses, two trial post-enumeration surveys, and logistics procurement were also completed, while the recruitment and training of approximately 75,000 census officials to be mobilized for the exercise is still underway.
The 100-day countdown will put together a diverse community of policymakers and stakeholders who will work together to execute the Census as strategic partners.
The magnitude and complexity of census implementation necessitated the participation of key stakeholders and the general public, according to the study.
