Former Vice-President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
Speaking in an interview with Peace FM, Dr. Bawumia said the news came as a shock, especially because he had seen the late MP just last Friday during a visit to his home.
“He didn’t appear unwell at all,” he noted.
Dr. Bawumia revealed that Mr. Kumi was not only a political ally during the 2024 elections but also a close personal friend, adding “I visited his family, and the grief and tears I witnessed were heartbreaking.”
The unexpected nature of the MP’s death, he said, continues to leave him puzzled and deeply saddened.
Mr. Kumi reportedly passed away on Monday, July 8, 2025, after a brief illness.
According to close sources, he was rushed to the hospital in the early hours of the morning but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
