The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has stated his intention to run for flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dr. Bawumia says he is ready to lead the party to “break the eight.”
He made this known to the Majority caucus in a meeting on Tuesday, May 2, according to MyJoyOnline.com sources.
The NPP has set November 2023 as the date for its presidential primaries.
The primary nomination period will begin on May 26 and end on June 24, 2023.
So far, nine candidates have declared their intention to lead the party.
They include former Trades and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng, former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, and Francis Addai Nimo.

The rest are former MP for Essikado-Ketan Joe Ghartey, former general secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyepong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
