The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development with from USAID Ghana has awarded ATL FM the Best Media Advocacy 2024 Responsible Fishing Awards.
The award is in recognition of ATLFM’s promotion and advocacy of issues regarding fisheries.
According to the scheme’s sponsors, the award honours ATL FM’s dedication to informing listeners on significant fisheries issues over the years through impactful reportage and programmes, especially ‘Egyanom Afarfo’.
While congratulating the ATLFM crew of the ‘Egyanom Afarfo’ show, the pioneer of the show, Mr Thomas Cosmos expressed appreciation towards the superiors at ATL FM who aided in the inception of ‘Egyanom Afarfo’ to inform fisherfolks and create awareness on issues bothering the fishing industry.
He recognized the hard work of the entire team despite his absence from the show due to his retirment age.
In an interview on ATL FM, he said “Despite my absence on the show, I still feel a part of the family for which reason I am very proud of this achievement.”
Mr. Thomas Cosmos also thanked the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development and its partners for such a recognition.
Mr. Cosmos maintained that when the time is appropriate, workers deserving of rewards are duly recognized for their diligence.
“Although people sometimes do not see the work we do as advocates, I know we deserve this award from the ministry for the hard work we have put in our work over the years,” he continued.
The Ministry mentioned in a citation to ATLFM ” Your efforts in bringing attention to responsible fishing practices and advocating or necessary reforms have played a crucial role in shaping public awareness and driving positive change in the fisheries sector.
“By providing a platform for important discussions and featuring stories that underscore the significance of sustainable fisheries, you have effectively mobilized support and informed the public, stakeholders, and policymakers alike.”
