Thousands of revelers trooped to the Community Gardens in Cape Coast on Tuesday, August 30 to witness the ATLFM Oguaa Fetu Afahye Regatta 2022.
It would be recalled that festivals in Ghana had been stalled for two years due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country in 2020.
The 2022 Regatta was a sight to behold as both young and old between the ages of one and above sixty eagerly observed the canoe race (Regatta) which is one of the many activities earmarked for the 2022 Fetu Afahye.
The canoe race, done annually alongside the Fetu Afahye festival prominently features the various Asafo Companies in Cape Coast competing for a trophy, cash prize, and other prizes.
After three competitive races, the Nkum Number 4 Asafo Company emerged winners and received a cash prize of GHC 1500 and products from Bel Beverages. Anaafo Number 2 placed second and received a cash prize of GHC 1000 and Bel Beverages products while Bentsir number 1 placed third and received GHC 800 and products from Bel Beverages.
Deputy Events Coordinator with the Campus Broadcasting Services Center (CBS), Mr. Emmanuel Buckman indicated that the event forms part of ATL FM’s effort to support the local fishing industry and to promote unity among the various Asafo companies in Cape Coast.
“Regatta because it’s a part of our programme schedules; on Tuesdays, we have Egyanom Afarifo and we mainly talk about fishing. It is prudent that during the Afahye festivities on Tuesday when the Nananom engage in the Bakatue, it just sits well for us to also augment it by doing the Regatta to collectively push the agenda of the festival to the outside world” he continued.
Speaking to ATL FM NEWS on the sidelines of the event, he noted the success of the event and hinted at more of such events in the future.
“It’s been two years since we did this and I think we came back with a bang…, it was a packed environment for us and it was fun. So, I think we succeeded in our dealings…we are going to push harder and come back better next year”
Explaining the rationale for working with ATLFM to host Regatta, Marketing Manager of Blow Chem Industries, Mr. Magnus Dey underscored the tremendous support of the people of Cape Coast towards their brand since its inception.
Hence, he said the support was a way of giving back to the people even as they celebrate their festival.
ATL FM NEWS spoke to some members of Nkum Number 4 Asafo Company after the event and they expressed excitement at winning the competition once more.
Additionally, they expressed gratitude to the event’s sponsors and expressed hope for future planning of the event.
