Sunday, June 16th, marked a special day in the lives of fathers around the world and as part of activities to mark the day, ATL FM hosted a fantastic Father’s Day celebration at its Kofi Totobi Kwakye Studios of the Campus Broadcasting Services Centre.
During the programme under the theme: The role of fathers in the family setting, Evangelist Brother Kofi Fenyin Martin, a marriage counsellor at Pedu Methodist Church indicated that Father’s Day is a special time for every father and it is a day to reflect on the joys and challenges of fatherhood.
According to him, it’s also a reminder of the important role of fathers in their children’s lives.
He said fathers play an incredibly multifaceted role in the family adding that they are often seen as providers and protectors, but their influence goes far beyond that.
Evangelist Bro. Martin stated that fathers contribute significantly to the emotional and psychological development of their children.
He said they model behaviour, instil values and provide support and guidance, and their involvement can positively impact children’s academic achievement, social behaviour, and overall well-being.
He further noted that there’s a growing trend of fathers taking a more hands-on approach to parenting and this includes participating in day-to-day activities like cooking, helping with homework, and attending school events.
On his part, the Kwabibirem Director of Education, Mr. Joseph Kingsley Akwaboah stated that fathers are also more emotionally available, engaging in open communication with their children and showing affection.
He said this shift is helping to break down traditional gender roles and create a more balanced family dynamic.
He said balancing work and family can indeed be challenging and advised fathers to prioritize quality time over quantity.
He said even small, consistent efforts to connect with children can have a lasting impact. Mr. Akwaboah intimated that it is important to encourage relationships with other positive male role models, such as uncles, grandfathers, coaches, or family friends as these figures can provide guidance and support.
