Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, says a computerized storekeeping system to monitor food items in stock in every Senior High School is currently being tried in the Ashanti region.
This system, which he said will be extended to other areas of the country, will help avert any shortfall of food items in the SHS under the school feeding program.
It would be recalled that last year, the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) announced it would delay school reopening if the government failed to pay outstanding arrears and supply food to schools.
But speaking on CITIFM on Monday, Dr. Adutwum assured that with the computerized storekeeping system in place, food supplies will be speedily disbursed to various senior high schools.
He however said the computerized storekeeping system is not a knee-jerk reaction to a request from CHASS.
He added, “…there is nothing that the ministry and especially the president will not do to support free senior high school and consequently with what I’ve put in place, I am of the strong belief that we will be able to make sure that the logistics to headteachers go on time.”
Addressing concerns over boarding facilities in schools outliving their purpose, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum noted that boarding schools will continue to play an essential role in the country’s Senior High School education system.
