Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye has refuted claims that the government is rushing to complete hospital projects in the Ashanti Region for political advantage.
He highlighted the long-term nature of these projects, cautioning against viewing their completion in an election year as solely politically motivated.
“I had to read this to remind all of us that good things don’t happen in a day. They happen over a period. This reminder is important because we are in an election year,” he said.
During a regional tour on Wednesday, June 26, Dr. Okoe Boye assured that the Suame and Sewuah Hospitals would be completed by September this year.
He noted that Ashanti Region has been allocated nearly half of the bed capacity among the twelve projects.
The hospitals in question form part of the government’s Agenda 111 initiative, which was launched in August 2021 by President Akufo-Addo.
It encompasses the construction and equipping of 101 district hospitals, regional hospitals in newly created regions, psychiatric hospitals in Kumasi and Tamale, and redevelopment of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
