Standout Moments from Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri
Myles Lewis-Skelly, just 18 years old, had a great game this season. He scored Arsenal’s third goal while playing left-back, a position he hasn’t played much before. His goal was a bold response to Erling Haaland, showing off his confidence. Then there’s 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, who added the fifth goal in extra time. That was his third goal in the Premier League this season.
Jay Bothroyd Weighs In
On The Optus Sport Football Podcast, former Arsenal player Jay Bothroyd talked about their performances. He thinks Nwaneri has lots of natural talent but will face some hurdles.
“Lewis-Skelly has never played as a left-back, but here he is in the Premier League, looking strong and skillful,” said Bothroyd. “It’s great to see homegrown talent doing well at Arsenal.”
Bothroyd feels Nwaneri could struggle to get regular playing time. With stars like Ødegaard and Saka on the team, it might be tough for Nwaneri to start unless the coach, Arteta, makes some big calls.
Nwaneri Shines in the Champions League
Even though Nwaneri hasn’t played as much in the Premier League, he made a big impact in a recent Champions League game against Girona. Analyst Phil Kitromilides said Nwaneri played with confidence similar to Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal.
“He played with style and confidence,” Kitromilides noted. “His goal was amazing. The way he took that shot at just 17 is impressive.”
Arteta Sees Nwaneri’s Talent
When Mikel Arteta was asked about Nwaneri, he showed a big smile. “Arteta knows he has something special,” Kitromilides shared. “Nwaneri plays with calmness and skill that is surprising for his age.”
While Lewis-Skelly’s consistency has given him more minutes this season, Nwaneri’s exciting play keeps getting noticed. Arsenal is in a great position with two promising talents. The challenge now is to make sure both players get the chances they need to grow and shine.
