The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu has stated that a lockdown is no longer a measure to be considered against the spread of Covid19 in Ghana.
According to him, a lot of things came to bare during the first lockdown and their negative impacts on the economy cannot be denied. “A lockdown is something we believe is not going to work any longer in the country, the lockdown taught us a lot of things and its impact is quite severe”, he said.
Earlier on, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta stated that it was obvious after the first lockdown that the country could no longer afford it because a significant proportion of Ghanaians make up the informal sector that basically rely on daily wages for their upkeep and thus could not afford to be kept indoors.

With regard to measures taken against the current situation in Obuasi which is now regarded as the new hotspot for Covid19 in the Ashanti Region, the Health Minister said the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kumah-Aboagye with a group of epidemiologist have been sent to Obuasi as a surveillance team and their report will inform further decisions and directives.
The minister has further called on Ghanaians to accept the fact that the Covid19 pandemic has come to live with them just like other diseases prevalent in the country and as such people must learn to follow the necessary directives and know how to live with the disease.
“Coronavirus has come to live with us just like Malaria, HIV, and all the other diseases we live with in the country and so what we have to do now is to learn how to manage the disease and live with it”, he said.
