Ghanaian rapper Amerado has openly shared that his entry into music was driven more by necessity than passion. In a recent interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, the “Obiaa Boa” hitmaker confessed that he often does not find joy in his role as a musician.
“The main reason I got into music was just to survive—I needed to eat. Most of the time, I don’t even enjoy being an artist,” he said.
Amerado explained that the music industry, despite its glamour, comes with significant pressures and limitations. He highlighted the loss of personal freedom as a major challenge, noting how fans expect celebrities to be generous in public.

“I feel restricted,” he remarked. “Whenever you’re outside—especially stuck in traffic—people expect you to give them money simply because you’re a known face.”
While acknowledging the burdens of public expectations and financial pressure, Amerado mentioned that live performances are one of the few aspects of his career that he truly enjoys.
“It’s not easy to maintain,” he added, emphasizing the emotional and financial demands of a music career.
When asked about an alternative career, Amerado revealed that he would have pursued football if music hadn’t worked out. Despite his mixed feelings about being an artist, Amerado’s honesty contributes to the ongoing discussion about the mental, financial, and emotional challenges many musicians face behind the scenes of their public success.
