Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has assured that all road contractors across the country, regardless of their political affiliations, will be paid for works done to ensure the smooth completion of ongoing road projects.
Speaking to the media during a tour in the Western Region, the Minister emphasized that road infrastructure benefits every Ghanaian, not just members of a particular political party.
“When a road is completed, it is not only the NPP or NDC that uses it everyone benefits. That’s why payment to contractors should not be politicized,” Mr. Agbodza said.
He applauded Justmoh Construction Limited, the company handling the Takoradi Nkwanta road project, for their unwavering commitment and perseverance, highlighting their continued work despite delays in payment.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Finance is making frantic efforts to mobilize funds for these outstanding payments, describing the move as a key priority under President John Mahama’s administration.
Mr. Agbodza also highlighted the importance of supporting local contractors, stressing their commitment to national development.
“It’s time we take good care of our local contractors. Unlike foreign contractors, these are citizens who won’t abandon the country or the projects. They are here with us through it all,” he stated.
The Roads Minister’s assurance comes as part of renewed efforts by the Mahama-led government to fast-track infrastructure development and support the growth of indigenous businesses within the construction sector.
He emphasized that road construction is a complex process often filled with unexpected challenges, including funding constraints and technical setbacks.
“Building roads is not as straightforward as it seems. There are always hurdles along the way, and that’s why we must give our Ghanaian contractors the encouragement they need and not rush to criticize them when timelines shift,” Dr. Amoh noted.
He stressed the importance of national unity and understanding in the development process, urging citizens to remain supportive of local contractors.
