The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) leadership has stated that it will ensure that all teachers receive their laptops as promised by the government.
The government is championing the previous administration’s 1 Teacher, 1 Laptop initiative, which aims to guarantee that all teachers have laptops in order to improve ICT literacy in schools.
During a visit to the Volta and Oti Regions, GNAT’s General Secretary, Thomas Musah, disclosed that the distribution of laptops to teachers in junior high schools had commenced nationwide.
This, he claims, comes after the delivery of materials to instructors at Senior High Schools has been completed.
Mr. Musa stated that teachers in all regions had got their laptops, with the exception of Ashanti and two districts in the Oti Region.
According to the figures provided, the stock delivered to several areas in the Volta Region will not be sufficient, he noted.
“We will do the necessary follow-up and ensure the outstanding ones [laptops] are supplied”, he assured.
The leadership promised to negotiate for appropriate compensation while enacting initiatives to improve members’ living conditions.
The district offices of Ho and Hohoe have asked for funding to finish their secretariat projects, while Kpando is looking for help to get an office complex project off the ground after acquiring property.
