Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), following a decisive win in the Association’s national elections held on Monday, June 30, 2025.
Mr. Dwumfuor, who has served in the role since 2022, secured 445 votes, representing 64.49 percent of the total valid ballots cast.
His closest challenger, Charles Yao Mawusi, polled 245 votes, accounting for 35.51 percent.
Over 800 accredited members of the GJA participated in the nationwide vote, which also saw the election of five additional national executive officers and several regional representatives.
The high turnout reflected a vibrant and competitive democratic process within the Association.
Despite entering the race at a later stage, Mr. Mawusi’s candidacy invigorated the campaign, prompting the incumbent to recalibrate his approach and consolidate support across diverse constituencies within the media fraternity.
In other outcomes, Rebecca Ekpe of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation was elected Vice President, succeeding Linda Asante. Ms. Ekpe, who previously held the position of Public Affairs Officer, prevailed over Mary Mensah of the Graphic Communications Group.
Suleiman Mustapha, also of the Graphic Communications Group, was elected Organising Secretary, while Zadok Kwame Gyesi emerged as the new Public Affairs Officer.
Altogether, 12 candidates contested for the six national executive positions, with 49 others vying for various regional offices, highlighting a highly engaged and dynamic electoral process.

In a keenly contested chairmanship position in the central region, Kingsley Nana Boadu won with 18 votes and the incumbent chairman secured 16 votes.

The vice chair position was secured by Adu-Gyamfi Marfo who contested unopposed.
Speaking to the ATL FM NEWS after the declaration of results by the Electoral Commission Officers, Mr. Boadu indicated that his tenure of office will hinge on inclusivity and vibrancy.
The newly elected national executives will serve a three-year term, during which they are expected to advance institutional reforms, promote ethical journalism, and navigate the GJA through the evolving challenges of Ghana’s media landscape.
