The Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremanten has appealed to the Bank of Ghana and the Ministry of Finance to join forces in establishing some loan schemes that will ensure the release of funds to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.
Speaking to officially launch the Business Resource Centres established by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ghana Enterprises Agency, and partners, he said the establishment of the Business Resource Centres will be a tool for the transformation of small businesses in the country.
To him, the history of the economic transformation of leading countries in Europe, North America, and Asia confirms that no country has experienced significant economic transformation and development without becoming a major industrialized economy.
He, therefore, said, “I want to use this platform, yes am part of government but am making an appeal to the government, to myself and to my government, ministry of finance working together and the central bank of Ghana to put together a loan guarantee scheme that will release the liquidity in the bank to support the development of micro small and medium scale enterprises.”
The Business Resource Centers are one-stop enterprise support centers in the districts designed to deliver a broad range of business development services to potential and existing entrepreneurs and enterprises.
Currently, there are 37 operating Business Resource Centers and 30 centers are at various stages of completion and construction.
The 67 Business Resource Centers are integral to Ghana’s vision of reducing unemployment, especially amongst the youth.
Mr. Kyeremanten also indicated that the key to the transformation of the country’s economy is to mobilize our Human Capital and the private micro small and medium enterprises sector.
