The National Democratic Congress’ 2020 Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama has described as worrying the unwillingness of President Akufo-Addo to fight corruption within his government.
He said the situation poses a major threat to the economic fortunes of Ghana.
According to the former president “the nonchalance and total unwillingness to address corruption in government is a major worry and will continue to affect our economic fortunes until the trend stops.”
In his address at the NDC Professionals Forum at the Cedi Conference Centre of the University of Ghana on Monday, he indicated that the only way to hold President Akufo-Addo and his government accountable for corruption is to vote them out of power in the upcoming 2024 elections.
“…the Natural order of things that Ghanaians have established is that, after 8 years leave and let a new government come and hold you accountable and so when I call for a change in government in 2024 as the first step towards halting this Como rage or badly needed resources through corruption and holding offending officials to account; our friends in government took offence but it remains the only viable way to save and protect the public purse…”

Relatedly, the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) revealed in a recent survey that, about 62% of 2,400 Ghanaians interviewed do not have confidence in the ability of President Akufo-Addo “to protect the country’s financial resources and curb corruption in the next four years.”
