President Akufo-Addo has congratulated the National Democratic Congress for winning the Tuesday, June 27, 2023 Assin North by-election.
While congratulating the main opposition party of Ghana in a tweet, he indicated that “Ghana’s democratic credentials were strengthened even further, following the conduct of peaceful and credible elections in the Assin North by-election.”
President Akufo-Addo added that he congratulates “warmly the Chairperson and Members of the Electoral Commission, again, for a job well-done.”
To the security services, he said they are to be commended for “maintaining law and order during the holding of the elections.”
He also said the media must be applauded for providing extensive coverage before, during and after the elections.
The President is however urging members of his party, the New Patriotic Party, to keep their heads up.
According to him, they should recognize that in a democracy, there are winners and losers, and that they live to fight another day.
He further expressed his confidence that sooner rather than later they will win again the Assin North seat they once held.
