Rosemond Brown, aka Akuapem Poloo on social media, has been given bail by the Criminal Division of the High Court awaiting the outcome of her lawyer’s appeal against her 90-day prison term.
She was released on bail with two sureties in the sum of GHS80,000.
She is also required to submit to the case examiner every two weeks and to deposit her passport with the court’s registrar.
In a naked picture she shared on social media, Akuapem Poloo was sentenced to 90 days in prison for posting pornographic content and breaching the privacy and reputation of her 7-year-old baby.
Some people, including showbiz celebrities, have criticized the penalty meted out to her after the ruling was made. They have signed a petition to get her out.
Rosemond Brown, who was sentenced to 90 days in prison after being accused of publishing indecent content and domestic abuse, pled guilty to the three counts last Wednesday and was found guilty on her own plea.
Andrew Vortia, her counsel, also entered a mitigation plea, requesting a more lenient sentence.
Mr. Vortia said that the prison term he received was excessive.
“In her favor, the mitigation variables outnumber the aggravating factors. When you think about it, this isn’t rape. That isn’t homicide. It’s a misdemeanor on which she may have gotten away with it,” he said.
The lawyer even challenged Rosemond Brown’s lack of respect about his seven-year-old baby.
“Social services may have been included in the budget. We’re trying to keep the child safe. Who would look after the infant now that the mother is gone? Mr. Andrew said, “There was nothing done to that impact.”
When the magistrate, Christina Cann, handed down the judgment on Friday, she bemoaned the recent spate of nudity on Ghanaian social media.
According to her, Rosemond Brown’s sentence could act as a deterrent to others.
