Two individuals, Promise Ahorgah and Kwaotse Mawuli were seized and hauled before the Accra High Court on allegations of impersonating North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP) Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in order to carry out fraudulent operations.
The accused, a phone repairer (Promise Ahorgah) and a building construction laborer (Kwaotse Mawuli), allegedly set up fake social media accounts in the name of the North Tongu MP in order to dupe unsuspecting Ghanaians into donating money to alleged victims of the Akosombo and Kpong Dam spills.
The two were arrested in December and face six preliminary accusations, including defrauding by false pretenses, charlatanic advertising, and fraudulently claiming to be a public servant.

The accused appeared before the Accra High Court’s Criminal Division, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo.
Watkins Adama, a State Attorney, sought that the accused suspects be remanded in jail for additional investigations during the court hearings on Friday, December 15, 2023.
The Court approved the motion, and the matter was deferred until January 9, 2024, when the accused’s plea will be taken.
Justice Osei Marfo urged the accused people who had expressed a desire to hire attorneys to secure their legal representation at the next hearing.
