YouTube said on Thursday that you can now make AI-generated video backgrounds with its Dream Screen feature for Shorts. Dream Screen was limited to producing image backgrounds thus far. The integration of Google DeepMind’s AI video-generation model, Veo, which can produce 1080p video clips in a variety of cinematic genres, makes the new feature conceivable.
The ability to convert text prompts into AI video backdrops is now available to users. You must enter the Shorts camera, hit the “green screen” button, and then choose “Dream Screen” in order to activate the feature. You can then enter a prompt, like “magical forest with a stream” or “candy landscape.” After selecting an animation style, click “Create.”
After that, you can select from a variety of video backdrops created using the Dream Screen tool. You can film a video with an AI background behind you after you’ve chosen one.

YouTube says the new feature can be used for things like putting yourself in the setting of your favorite book or creating an animated opening for your Short.
YouTube intends to use Dream Screen in the future to enable creators to produce standalone, six-second video segments for Shorts.
Notably, TikTok, the top platform for short-form videos, does not offer a tool that YouTube is providing to creators of short videos. TikTok does not presently allow you to make video backdrops, but it does allow developers to create AI-powered background images.
In the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the new feature is currently accessible.
