The Agricultural Modernization and Commercialization team of the University of Cape Coast has held a workshop on proposal writing to equip lecturers with the requisite skills needed to write grant award-winning proposals.
The workshop which brought together lecturers and students from various departments was aimed at building upon the knowledge in writing technical papers for conferences and presentations at the university.
Speaking with ATL FM NEWS on the sidelines of the workshop, the chairman for the Agriculture Modernization and Commercialization team, Professor Aaron Tettey Asare intimated that when it comes to grants, constant training and practice of proposal; writing is key hence the need to undertake such workshops.
“Part of the university agenda is teaching, research and community service and as a university we are suppose to have community impact for socio-economic development; so, the action plan for the year demands training for grantsmanship so we can compete for local and international grants and sought for funds to embark on activities.”
He explained that as agriculture modernization and commercialization is capital intensive it requires resources for infrastructure capacity building and to revamp the agricultural sector.
On his part, Daniel Yeboah Mensah an Assistant Registrar with the Monitoring and Evaluation unit of the University of Cape Coast, said the initiative forms part of the Vice Chancellor’s vision to adequately develop the university’s Agriculture Modernization and Commercialization sector.
He expressed optimism that the participants will be able to write quality proposals that will win grants following the training.
